Robert Smith

Obituary of Robert Norman Smith

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Robert Smith shares the news of his sudden passing on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Beloved husband to Colleen Smith (nee Emmerson) and loving father to Mike Smith (Julie), Jennifer Laird (Colin) and Sarah Shelswell (Tom). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Natalie, Maeva, Max, Wyatt and Aubrey. He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Kathalene Smith. He is survived by his brothers, George (Sharon), Aldon (Jay), Bruce (Diane), Donavan (Trudy) and his sister Karen (Dave). A graduate of the University of Guelph with a degree in Physics, Robert’s heart belonged to the family farm. Returning to High Point Farms after graduation, he worked alongside his father, Les, and transformed his passion for Holstein breeding into a life’s work. His discipline, commitment, and pursuit of excellence earned him the esteemed Master Breeder Award four times, a rare accomplishment that is testament to his dedication and vision. In recent years, Robert continued to build his legacy alongside his son, Mike. Robert was an active 4H leader and enjoyed sharing his love of Holsteins with the next generation. Robert treasured being a Grandpa and was often at the rink, the soccer field, baseball diamond or volleyball court supporting his grandchildren with pride. He will forever be remembered for his devotion to farming, his family and his friends. Thank you to the First Responders, Dr. Merrilee Brown and the staff at Port Perry Hospital.
