When asked how many kids he had, our father would always say…I have 4 girls and they each have a brother…….5 kids, Al was the brother…our big brother…or bro he would say.
He used to tell the story of how he took his little sister’s hand…Carole, who was a year younger, and walked her to school on her first day. He was so proud to do it. He loved his sisters..…especially Carole. They were especially close and I’m happy to know that they are together again.
He also loved to come to our summer parties and play horseshoes….our family Christmas's, he loved going to Jamaica every year….and he loved his music. He taught himself to play the electric guitar and went on the road doing what he was born to do..play guitar.
He found himself in odd jobs along the way…a bartender…a rental store rep., but in 2011, his music found him again like it was his destiny. He joined the country and western band ‘Country Sunrise’ and later on, ‘Johney & The Generics’. The two bands entertained in various venues in the Durham area.
His favourite moments were when his family would come and watch him play.
It deeply saddened by brother when he could no longer play his music.
Don’t worry Al. I am sure there are guitars in heaven.
