Larry Mabley was my Uncle he was a truly remarkable man, a real athlete, and when i was a very small child of 2 or 3 yrs old he seemed so intimidating, he was so big and strong, tanned with a deep voice, but i found out at this young age what real kind and good man he was. Watching the leafs sitting in his chair with him. A real Canadian sportsman, fisherman, hockey, baseball and hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing he taught me the outdoors, how to drive a boat. Not only was he a man of principles and common sense, strength of conviction, integrity & honesty and his faith in God Church Family and Community. Larry was a man’s man, very talented highly skilled, a larger than life figure like a “JOHN WAYNE“... However, his large frame and deep voice, underneath he was the most kind, genuine and understanding person, supported by his Faith in God. Truly in love with his wife Aunty Joan and a man of family, faith and my mentor, he lived a truly remarkable life as SANTA CLAUS. We have lost a very special man who has lived a wonderful life, A compassionate man, a passionate Family man, loved His Friends, his Church and his Community of Port Perry. My Uncle taught me so much more than just how to be a boater. We worked together multiple times at Port Perry Hydro, Bombardier in Thunder Bay...I have been so blessed to have had 65 years of his time, jokes, advise and support and friendship, his prayers and faith of God. I truly loved my Uncle Larry I am a better man because of my Aunty Joan and Uncle Larry Mabley.

I remember many cold days at the arena sitting with Larry watching the Mojacks play and when there was a quiet time Larry would holler in his loud voice “Come on Port”
Larry would often call out the players by name to cheer them on.
He was so proud that Shawn played in goal for the Mojacks. Larry will be missed at the games.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. He was a kind and gentle man full of laughter. He always stopped to say hello and have a chat whenever we saw him on the street. We have missed the jolly old Santa since he retired. May he Rest In Peace and his memories keep him forever close. Sincerely John & Marie Lucyk

Dear Joan and family,
Nancy and I were saddened to hear of your loss. While her memories of Larry are more recent I think back to my youth and the crazy truck rides at the farm, the fishing trips up north and most importantly the deep friendship you both shared with my Mom and Dad. My fondest memory is of Larry asking me to accompany him as he said his final goodbye to his old friend, my Dad, at his funeral. I was touched and honoured to be there for Larry. He was a great and kind man. Thinking of you all and wishing you peace in the memories of him.

Dearest Joan,Cindy,Jamie and families, our deepest sympathies to all of you at this sad time. Oh my goodness,Larry had a very loud voice but all in friendliness and fun.Remembering many years at Port Perry Baptist of (as Chris noted) Larry's loud "Amens", and his singing as he raised his voice during the course of each hymn. Another memory I have of Larry was many years ago when I was grocery shopping and we ended up chatting in the juice isle ,(I'm sure the whole store heard our conversation as Larry was not known to have a quiet voice, ha ha)
he mentioned that the apple cider was very tasty, I laughed and said "it's not on my list tonight Larry";he continued on his way and a few minutes later there he was putting a large jug of apple cider in my cart. It is with those kind gestures that you see Jesus shining through. Heaven will be hearing a lot of " Amens". May the love of our great God sustain you at this difficult time. Much love and many prayers, Mike and Wanda Klock

Great memories of Mr. Mabley as I was growing up. A friendlier face at Port Baptist you would not find, maybe not even to this day. You might mistake his large presence as intimidating as you'd hear a very audible "Amen" from the back row or, his very direct gaze as he would welcome you, or ask a caring question. It didn't take much to figure out this was a gentle man with an enormous heart who cared...especially for the unseen and forgotten. Lovingly referred to as "Moose" by some, they don't make men like this anymore. It is truly the end of an era in Port Perry.
My condolences to Mrs. Mabley, Jamie, Cindy, and to anyone who was fortunate to have known this gentle man.

Dear Joan, Jamie, Cindy and families
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Larry. He was such a dominant person wherever he was - his laugh and teasing are remembered and I am sure many in the community remember him as the hydro man or Santa Claus.
We remember meeting you at church our first time there in Port Perry. I don't know if it was that night or the following Sunday night, you invited us in for fellowship. It was so nice to be welcomed so soon after arrival. We remember bonfires at your place and different things we did together at church and as families.
Larry will be greatly missed and we want you all to know that we are praying for you all as a family.
We know that you are so grateful that Larry is with the Lord but it is so hard to say goodbye.
May our heavenly Father bless you each one with a sense of His presence, peace and wisdom. May He give you rest and sleep and guidance for all that you have to do.
Jesus says "Come to me all you that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:. May you each find this to be true moment by moment.
With our love and prayers,
Lois & Ken Barron

Jamie and the Mabley Family,
I am so saddened to hear of Larry's passing. I have nothing but great memories of him. Staying over at your place as a kid, he was always the loud, boisterous and fun father figure. But more than that, he was alway extremely nice and always positive toward me. He loved his family and hockey. Sorry for your loss.
