Truly....words cannot explain the loss I feel. I cannot imagine the loss Marj and the girls feels but I have a sense. He was truly my brother...emotionally and spiritually. All those nights playing cards....drinking....joking....poking fun.....I will never forget. I remember one of his first cars and our experience with the bikers swarming us. I remember his car radio being stolen right in our driveway. I remember the purple Duster and the doughnuts we did in the parking lot during the winter. I remember the red convertable and speeding to hockey in the middle of summer, if my mom only knew how fast we were going. Then when I raised my family, Doug was there with just the right vehicle. He loved cars and I have so many positive memories around Doug and cars. Then there was the slo-pitch. We played together in the Port but we were waiting for the over 50 and the Beaches....that never happened but we were so intent on sharing that opportunity. They say you judge a person by their friends. I have met so many good people who were Doug's friends...I am grateful for that. Doug will be sadly missed but we will all be together one day. Love you Doug and family. Signed....your "little" cousin. Brian and Debbie

My partner Brian Malott has always told me how Doug has been like his brother....though actually a cousin. Doug and Brian lived together as teenagers and shared many memorable events together in their lives. Doug was a big brother to Brian with the fancy cars and lively lifestyle. Over the years life has been busy but the bond and relationship has endured between them. I've only had the pleasure of knowing Doug and the Dempsey family for 3 years and I can see the love and connection that is there between all of them. It's been a pleasure to meet Doug and get to know him a little. I wish it could have been for longer. It was important and meaningful to Brian to have time to spend with Doug in the hospital. The special squeeze he got from Doug on his last day will be forever cherished by Brian. I will remember Doug as the fun loving, competitive euchre and baseball player. His family was everything to him. Rest in peace Doug. Love Brian and Debbie

We are so incredibly saddened by the news of Doug's passing. We will truly miss seeing him each weekend at the local hangouts; greeting me with a friendly kiss, a firm handshake for Randy, and stimulating conversation. A true friend and gentleman who would do everything in his power to help out when needed. Dougie will always hold a special place in our hearts and memories.

Marjie & Deanna - my goodness we have so many good memories of Doug....he lived large and affected everyone in his path....perhaps my fondest is the time he spent Christmas with us and our family while you were in Newfoundland and how much he revelled at being part of a family while you were away....everyone instantly loved him even though for most it was a first time meeting. He loved both of you so very much and wanted nothing less than the "world" for you....you and all of us will miss him dearly! May the angels whisk him off to the nearest ball diamond! With love Grant & Kath

Dear Marjie and family, I am devastated to hear that my good friend Doug has gone --much, much too soon! It was always a pleasure to see his smiling face, to enjoy his zest for life, and the impressive, predictable common-sense he brought to every topic he addressed. He will be sorely missed, not only by his softball-playing buddies, but by all those with whom he interacted over the years. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Marjie and Family: Words are inadequate at this time but take comfort in the fact that Doug was a true friend and a respected teammate of a lot of us old contemptibles. I think back to the good times on the softball field, and off, the many tournaments, and the trips to Florida. What memories! Doug can find a place in my lineup anytime. He will be missed. God bless.
