Dear Noreen: One of my earliest recollections in my life was that of my mother bringing my brother and I to the St. Lawrence Market when I was 4 years old (57years ago). Our first stop would always be at your booth to get our weekly chickens and two dozen eggs. As I grew older, I would bring my mother down there and I realized how much my mother loved "The Clarke's". Also, as I grew older, my wife and I came to love you and Harlan as well. Whether it was up at the farm or down at the market, you were always welcoming and warm. It was when we visited you at the farm to pick up eggs (if we couldn't make it in to the market)that I got to know the funny, acerbic wit of Harlan. He certainly did not suffer fools gladly, especially if they were with the egg marketing Board or the big "factory farms". He had more than a few outspoken views on the politics of the day as well. Lynda and I will miss Harlan. He was the pure example of devotion to you, Noreen, and of his dedication to his customers, many of whom became friends over the years, and to his birds and his commitment to a job that never ended. Rest in peace Harlan. You sure have earned it. With Love, Joe and Lynda Visconti

Dearest Norine: I am so sorry you've lost Harlan. And I am so sorry that we have lost Harlan. I have often dreaded your absence at the market on Saturdays, never mind the absence of your wonderful eggs. It is my great misfortune that I am not able to attend a visitation or the funeral. Please know you are in my thoughts and my heart. Barbara Turnbull

Dear Norine and family: Harly was one of those rock-steady people on whom we could always count. He was a mainstay at the St. Lawrence Market and will be greatly missed by his customers, so many of whom, like us, counted him as a friend. In this difficult time, we send you our warm thoughts and regards. Sincerely, Peter Nobbs (Wheelchair Pete) and Joan Smith

Dear Norine, Karl & I are so sorry for your loss. As a child growing up our families spent many a Sunday together. Whatever time Dairy Cows and Chickens could spare. The many tours to enjoy the Fall colours, wildlife, flowers, rivers, lookouts, and yummy picnics were a cornerstone to my life. Thank you both. Harley was such a character, he kept a kid on her toes! Such wit. The patience it must have taken him to put up with us. Bothering a giant sleeping dog, checking out "Bobby" the robin, watching Rose Bowl Parades on a "colour" TV and forever pestering the adults in an intense card game. Harley will be known for being diligent, constant and one of a kind" He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Norine. Betty & Karl
