A ULOGY TO MARY, FROM HER DAUGHTER The sun shines. The birds chirp. The wind rustles through the leaves. Neighbourhood children can be heard playing in the distance. Beloved Mary continues on her journey. Her energy intertwined with the many lives she has touched. A strong independent woman, who has left a legacy of sovereignty and labour; combined with, comradery and joy, she enjoyed her life to the fullest. There was an energy about her that was so intense, even in death it can be felt all around us. A memory of a kind word, a private moment, a shared laugh, a knowledge gained, a new perspective learned. For that was Mary. The dolls she made, that spanned the globe. The endless quilts. The wallpaper she choose so well, much to Siebe’s initial resistance. The plaster ceilings she tore down, for Siebe to replace…once he was back from vacation. The toil of studying. The dedication to her job. The told stories of growing up on the Baltimore farm, shared over a glass of wine. Mary was so many things to so many people. Most of all, she was a loving wife and devoted mother. Her marriage was based on love, respect, and forward motion. Together for over 50 years, they built a home and family and traveled the world. As a mother, she instilled strong values and independence. (For that I will always be grateful.) I cherish her memories, as well as my own. Many a bottle of wine led to stories of her growing up on the Baltimore farm. A funeral for a doll. Parading her younger siblings down the driveway to bury the broken doll. When her little brother wouldn’t cry (it was only a doll after all) she pinched him, until he did. Being of strong will and mind, Mary knew what she wanted. As a child when left for the day to wallpaper her room (in flowers) and her older brother’s (in stripes), she decided she liked the stripes for her room and proceeded to wallpaper her brother’s room in flowers. When he came in from working in the fields, his only words were “You’re in trouble now. And, he lived with the flowers. Yes, Mary had a mind of her own. She also had an incredible outlook on life. Always so positive. Always a smile and a good story to share. “Sandra’s new house has a red bathtub in the living room. That tub has got to go. “Siebe ran over the wheel barrow…with my BRAND NEW car! And now he’s lost the antenna. Oh yes, there are many stories to be told about Mary. She led a very active life, and has touched the hearts of us all. She was a very lovely lady.

Dear Siebe and Sandra, It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Mary. We look back to our first meeting in 1973 when we were next-door neighbours on Cochrane Street. We can still see little Sandra sitting by the back door waiting for you to return from work. Our ways parted, but we reconnected when we worked together in Sunderland and developed a close friendship. Those of us who were privileged to be her friend new her to be an extremely hard working woman with a great sense of humour and a caring, nurturing and generous personality. We can certainly say that she was one of "the old school". Her love of animals was also a major part of her life, and she will be missed, not only by Kelty and Skye, but by our Mimi, whom she constantly threatened to steal !Although she is gone now, she will forever remain in our memory, and we are the richer for having known her. We send our love to you both at this time. Catherine and Tom Millar.

Dear Mr. Rekker and Sandra. Im so sorry to hear about your loss,my prayers and thoughts are with you both at this difficult time. Paul Brignall I'M FREE Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I'm following the path God has chosen for me. I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I've now found peace at the end of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow Look for the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen your pain with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee, God wanted me now-He set me free
