My Destiny
Methought I saw one night in June,
A Black Eyed Susan in full bloom.
Its ebony crown shone with the light,
From silver moon, on that spring night.
In purest white this crown was dressed
And over all did dewdrops nest.
While round the gem red roses clung
And to the breeze sweet fragrance flung.
I marked this flower must surely be
My future and my destiny.
It was no dream that I had then
Because to-night you bloom again.
Your ebony hair still touched with white,
A gentle crown shedding soft light.
Like petals your gown sets off the crown
And dew on these, your soft eyes of brown.
Again these roses pinned to your vest,
Spread delicate blush upon your breast.
To-night when I breathe, that I love thee
I know you to be my destiny.
