Obituary of George Herbert Jackson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Jackson. George passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 79. Loving and devoted husband of the late Eleanor (nee Hutchinson). Loving father of Kevin (Anita) Jackson of Burketon and Cheryl (Robert) Skarnikat of Oshawa. Proud and loving grandfather of Mitchell, Shanelle and Hannah. Greatly missed by his brother David (Nancy) Jackson, and Kathleen (Lee) Wood and brother-in-law Patrick O'Brien. Caring brother-in-law of the late Joan O'Brien and Colleen (Bruce) Lush. Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews and fondly remembered by his many friends. George was born on the Jackson family farm located on Scugog Island in 1937. He was the eldest of 3 children born to Fred and Jean Jackson. A lifelong resident of Scugog Township, George attended Scugog Island Centre School and eventually onto Port Perry High School. George moved into the town of Port Perry once his working career began. He lived with his grandparents George and Eva Jackson in their home on Bigelow Street - the same home in which he raise his family and live most of his life. Although he started his working life with the CIBC, George eventually landed a very coveted job with General Motors in Oshawa and ended up retiring from the Truck Plant after 32 and a half years of dedicated service. George was a man very devoted to his family and his faith in God. His membership in the Port Perry United Church family was such an integral part of his life for over 50 years. His love of music, both country and gospel, singing in the choir and playing a mean harmonica for the grandchildren, will leave us all lasting memories. From his farming roots, he never shied away from "working the land" in his massive vegetable gardens which ultimately gave him peace and quiet and a great sense of accomplishment. The family of George Jackson will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985 2171) on Thursday, September 8th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Service to Celebrate his life will be held in the Port Perry United Church on Friday, September 9th at 11 a.m. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, the Port Perry United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
