Obituary of Fr. J. Bernard Canning
Peacefully at Houses of Providence on Monday, April 6, 2015. Beloved son of the late Joe and Ethel Canning. Dear brother of Ed and Helen, Hugh and Sylvia, Marie and Frank Armstrong and Basil and Edna. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Father was ordained on May 31, 1959 by Cardinal McGuigan in St. Michael's Cathedral. He served many parishes and was Associate Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Toronto; St. Mary's Parish, Brampton; St. Pius X Parish, Toronto and St. Margaret's Parish, Midland. Father was Pastor of St. Anthony's Parish, Toronto; St. Gertrude's Parish, Oshawa; St. Isaac Jogues Parish, Pickering; St. Monica's Parish, Toronto; St. Joseph's Parish, Beaverton; Immaculate Conception Parish, Port Perry and St. Joseph's Parish, Toronto. Father was also Administrator of Holy Martyrs of Japan Parish, Bradford. Father Canning retired in 2005.
Visitation in St. Isaac Jogues Parish, 1148 Finch Avenue, Pickering on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass in St. Isaac Jogues Parish on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall.
Interment Queen of Clergy Cemetery, Kingston Road, Toronto.
