If you are in charge of creating the obituary for a deceased loved one, you may find the task a little difficult to handle, especially if you haven't written one in the past. This is why it isn't uncommon for many people to avoid writing obituaries in the first place. However this isn’t a good idea. If you write an obituary it helps you recover from your grief. Here are some tips on how to create a personalized obituary:

  • While writing the piece, keep in view the person's likes and dislikes, preferences, and personality. For example, if the person was very humorous, you can write the obituary in a light vein.
  • Make it a point to include all the little details. Aside from making a note of their achievements, write about how different things about that person made them special to you. The idea of writing an obituary is to give people a better insight into the person's life.
  • You can write about what effect your loved one had on your life and about certain conversations that helped you become a better person. The idea is to add a personalized touch to the obituary by adding memories and stories to it.
  • Many people wonder whether it is a good idea to include humor in such a somber note. However, there is nothing amiss about doing so. It is a great way to celebrate the life of someone who was very happy go lucky.
  • You can draft the piece and run it by some other family member and get their inputs on it as well.

As you can see, it really isn’t very difficult to personalize an obituary. If you want to know more about our funeral services, feel free to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today, and we’ll be happy to help with all your specific needs.
