Dealing With Unresolved Grief

Most people that experience the death of a loved one, find it extremely difficult to deal with the loss. Most of us prefer joy over sadness, life over death and winning over losing. This is exactly why many people also find themselves dealing with extreme and unresolved grief after the death of someone they love. This is primarily because, our life changes entirely and we are unable to deal with the new stage that is inevitable.

Common Reactions To Grief After A Loss

Most of the things that you experience in the early stages while grieving are normal. For example, loss of appetite and energy, feeling that your body doesn't really belong to you or that you are in a nightmare etc. While all of these are normal reactions, it is important that the grief and the symptoms of it fade away over time.

If this doesn't happen, the grief that you feel can become detrimental to your health. This is referred to as unresolved grief, where you are unable to come to terms with the loss of the loved one. Here are some ways in which you can deal with unresolved grief:

  • Keep in that there is no right and wrong when it comes to dealing with the loss of a loved one. However, it’s important that you focus on doing various normal things in your life. In a way, this will help with the overall healing process.
  • Do not shy away from seeking support from people that care about you and those who are close to you.
  • It's also very important that you focus on eating right and taking good care of yourself physically.
  • You should be able to differentiate between the concept of grief and depression. If you are suffering from the latter, consulting a professional psychologist can go a long way in helping you deal with the unresolved grief.
