What Steps Are Involved in Preparing a Funeral Service?

When a family is organizing a funeral service for a loved one, they have some specific ideas about how the service should be. And while there may be some aspects that are different based on what the family’s preferences are, there are certain basic steps that come into play:

  • The very first calls have to be made to inform the funeral home to have the decedent moved from the place where he or she died.

  • The funeral director will organize to have body transferred from the place of death to the funeral home.

  • It’s best to look for a good local funeral home; discuss all your requirements with the funeral director.

  • Once you have decided what merchandise you need, you can buy the casket, urn, grave marker etc. as required.

  • Meet the cemetery officials at the cemetery- here you will choose the plot, grave, urn or niche you need.

  • After the funeral, you’d have to handle all of the administrative, financial and legal tasks.

Some Other Aspects to Keep In Mind

Before starting on any of this planning and arrangements, find out whether the decedent has pre-planned their own funeral or left some instructions about their wishes. If they have, it's important that you plan and organize everything in line with their wishes.

If the decedent hasn’t pre-planned their own funeral at a particular funeral home, it’s best to call the cremation service provider/funeral home of your choice before anything else, since they will handle all the aspects of the funeral.

This helps ensure you don’t have to bear any transportation charges to move the decedent to a different funeral home. If you want to know more about our funeral services, feel free to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today and we’ll be happy to help with all your specific needs.
