Selecting a Final Resting Place after Cremation

Many people have started to choose cremation instead of a burial and they want to dispose of the remains of the deceased loved one with respect and dignity. Finding a final resting place for the decedent after the cremation isn’t as very difficult. At Wagg Funeral Home, we recommend the options mentioned below:

1. Display the ashes

Many family members place the ashes from the cremation in an urn and display it in their home. This is an age-old practice and it allows people to feel close to their departed loved ones.

2. Burying the ashes

Many people aren’t comfortable with the idea of displaying the ashes but they still want to be able to access it. Burying the urn containing the ashes is one of the most popular ways to handle the remains from the cremation. You can bury the urn in your backyard or book a small spot in your local cemetery.

3. Scattering the ashes

Scattering the ashes is also a popular way to dispose of a loved one’s remains. Some people scatter the ashes in a special garden on their property. Some place the ashes in a pot with soil and grow plants in it. You can also scatter the ashes in rivers and lakes after gaining permission from local authorities.

4. Columbarium

A columbarium is specifically designed to house the cremated remains. This structure has small compartments that can house the urn with the ashes. A columbarium can be located indoors or outdoors, and it is very easy to visit. Housing the remains in the columbarium is also more affordable than burying them in a cemetery.
