How a Celebrant Helps a Family Heal

The loss of a loved one is an overwhelming and stressful time for a family. It is a time filled with sadness and grief, which can make it difficult to remember the good times that were shared with the deceased. While you are planning a funeral or memorial service it can be hard to find time to heal, that’s where the crucial role of a celebrant comes into play.

To help in the healing and funeral process, families turn to funeral directors or clergy church members to help them capture the essence of a person’s life for their service. However, for those that are not connected with the church, a funeral celebrant is a good alternative because it focuses more on the life lived and the spiritual gift left behind as opposed to the religious aspect of the church.

In a time where celebrations of life are gaining popularity as opposed to traditional funeral services, the increase and need for celebrants has grown. A celebrant is someone who creates and fulfills ceremonies for monumental milestones in a person’s life to honour them and honour their loved ones. During these ceremonies, it is a time of reflection through stories but expressed in several different media forms, such as words, music, videos, or even at times poetry.

A celebrant is there to help your family create the perfect ceremony that depicts a time of remembering. When you first sit down with your celebrant, you will share stores, pictures, experiences, maybe even songs that help you define who your loved one was in their life. From those memories a celebrant is able to capture and design the perfect celebration of life. They are there on a more emotional platform for those who are grieving.

A celebrant is similar to a funeral director in the way that they will help plan the service, but make it more interactive by allowing family and friends to have an opportunity to share input. However, a funeral director is more focused on the logistics of the service, while a funeral celebrant is focused on the emotional and spiritual needs of the grieving family that will help them heal. They focus on the celebration of the life as the life lived, and your life as you move on through your grief. They will help ensure that the memories of your loved one are not forgotten but rather embraced through the celebration.
