Are All Caskets The Same Size?

Several customers at Wagg Funeral Home inquire about the size of the caskets and wonder whether they are all the same size. That is not the case. A standard-sized one will usually serve if you need a casket for a departed family member. A large casket would be necessary if the person were bigger.

Typical Casket Sizes

1. Dimensions of a Standard Casket

These caskets are typically 84 inches long, 28 inches broad, and 23 inches long. Wood and steel caskets are almost similar in size in most cases. Caskets of standard sizes can be buried in regular graveyards (usually 30" in width). The casket's internal dimensions will vary greatly. On the interior, metal caskets usually are 78/79" in length and 23/24" wide.

Most people can fit into standard-sized caskets that can carry someone weighing 350 pounds and 6'5" tall. However, you should consult with a funeral director because they are skilled and knowledgeable and can help you choose the ideal casket for your needs.

2. Larger Casket Dimensions

A larger casket would be an option if you need it for a relatively bigger person and want more space inside the casket. The internal area is larger than standard-size caskets, although the length is similar to standard caskets. Oversized caskets can have an external width of as low as 27 inches and a narrower inner width. Additionally, bigger caskets measuring 28", 29", 33", 40", and 44" are available. Internally, all dimensions would be one inch smaller than outside.

If you need any additional information, feel free to call us and speak with the funeral director at Wagg Funeral Home. We can help you preplan a funeral and with information about the different services available. Our funeral director is here to provide the details you need about various casket sizes, to help you make an informed choice.
