Creating New Family Traditions After A Loss

Losing someone you love may throw your family's structure and stability off balance. When a family member passes, simple routines and customs that worked in the past become torturous. We at Wagg Funeral Home believe in creating new traditions to assist the grief process. Here are a few pointers to get you started:

1. Give Priority To Memories That Bring You, Joy

Establish customs and rituals based on fond recollections. If a child has lost a parent, for instance, make efforts to commemorate the birthday of that parent every year. A modest private gathering of close relatives does not have to be extravagant or boisterous. You can prepare the deceased's favorite foods and listen to their preferred music. Instead of mourning a loss, individuals conduct these sorts of celebrations to honor that life and happiness.

2. Light Candles

Every year, you can light candles in honor of a departed loved one. If you're looking for something discreet yet significant, these rituals can help. Candlelight creates a calming ambiance and soft light that enables you to heal.

3. Take a Road Trip

Many families choose to visit a specific place to honor their memory on the anniversary of a loved one's death. Some people go to their favorite beach, while others visit places on their bucket list that the departed couldn't go to. In this manner, you can respect the memory of a loved one while also ensuring that you do not feel alone.

4. Make A Special Playlist For Your Music

Make a playlist of music that you and your special someone both liked. This music is perfect for when memories are getting the better of you, and you need a little solace.
