What to Expect After the Funeral Service

People often become engrossed in funeral planning, arrangements, and service immediately after a loved one dies. They have tasks like contacting family members, hiring a local funeral home, discussing the logistics, etc. At Wagg Funeral Home, we have seen people prepare for the funeral but not what comes after it. Here’s a look at what you can expect immediately after:

1. Onslaught of Grief

It is easy to set your pain aside when you need to focus on responsibilities. Unfortunately, all of that suppressed gain comes surging back after the funeral is over. Guests live, people focus on their lives, and there's very little to distract you from the loss. You may experience heightened grief at this point.

2. Paperwork

Formalities and paperwork don’t end with the funeral. The deceased family still has to deal with several responsibilities like handling the estate, getting copies of death certificates, closing accounts, and so much more. Families often have to handle legalities for months after the formals, especially if their loved one doesn't leave any last will behind.

3. The Digital Estate

Almost everyone has an online presence these days. Social media accounts, blogs, websites, and other such online assets remain active after a person passes away. Family members must either close or memorialize these accounts after their loved one passes away. Platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn provide detailed instructions on how to delete or memorize the accounts.

4. Urgent Bills and Finances

You need to make sure all bills are cleared and the person’s finances are in order. Contact banks, lenders, credit card establishments, utility establishments, and other such entities to sort out debt, account ownership, dues, and other such factors.

If you want to know about our funeral or memorial services, don’t hesitate to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today and we’ll be happy to help.
